Wellness testing allows the doctor to assess your pets medical condition, its purpose is to detect subclinical abnormalities before symptoms begin to show. Our Wellness Program embraces a focus on preventative medicine based on the specific life-stage of your pet. Each patient is assessed individually based on factors such as species, breed, age, and environmental challenges.
At home, you can keep an eye out for symptoms such as drinking more water, a change in weight, a change in frequency of urination, changes in appetite, behavior, and energy.
The key to Dufferin Davenport Animal Hospital Wellness Program is an emphasis on annual health exams. Each year when your pet comes in he or she will receive a comprehensive physical exam and age appropriate ancillary diagnostics (such as a blood test, urine test, or fecal test) to screen for early signs of disease.
Main components of a Wellness Profile include:
- Complete Blood Count tests for Anemia, Leukemia, Infection, Inflammation
- Chemistry Profile tests Liver, Kidney, and Pancreas functioning, Muscle and Bone Disorders, Diabetes
- Thyroid Function Test detects Hyperthyroidism in cats and Hypothyroidism in dogs
- Urinalysis tests for Kidney Disease, Crystals, Diabetes and Infection
